KC Showing ofBeyond Fear--Towards Hope: An Exhibition of the Iraq War

PLANS ARE WELL UNDERWAY to bring this acclaimed exhibit to Kansas City in October. In this critical time, Eyes Wide Open speaks directly to our hearts and minds, shattering the claim that the war has made America safer and challenging us to confront our fears and let our dreams, not our nightmares, shape our collective future.

According to Scoop web site: "Since 1979, Iraqis lived under the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein in which many minority groups experienced severe repression and human rights abuses. Quality of life for the majority of Iraqis plummeted after the first gulf war destroyed much of the country’s infrastructure and sanctions crippled the economy. This introduction was part of Eyes Wide Open, a multimedia exhibition that explores the effects of the Iraq war on Iraqi civilians and U.S. soldiers. People see, hear and feel the impact of this war and the first Persian Gulf War. Moreover, they see the suffering caused by a decade of subjection to UN and U.S. sanctions. Finally, the event marks the one-year anniversary of the U.S. and British invasion of Iraq. "

> Help Fahrenheit 9/11 Moviegoers Turn Up the Heat: Leaflet at Film Screenings

From United for Peace and Justice -- Beginning this Friday, June 25, millions of Americans will get an eye-opening education about the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks when they turn out in droves to see Michael Moore’s new film Fahrenheit 9/11. Moore’s movie has great educational potential — but education about our government’s actions is only the first step toward changing harmful policies. Help Fahrenheit 9/11 moviegoers take the next step by distributing special action leaflets produced by United for Peace and Justice, CODEPINK, and Global Exchange for the occasion.

From MoveOn.org -- Around a million people -- including at least 110,000 pledged MoveOn members -- will see Fahrenheit 9/11 when it opens this weekend. The film will leave them shocked, moved, and furious at the Bush administration's duplicity.
